Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Covebuilder.
Getting started
What is Covebuilder?
Covebuilder is an AI business builder for small businesses. Describe your business and we build your website, set up your business email, make your posts and pictures, and give you tools for bookings, orders, quotes and invoices and payment links. Cove, your AI helper, knows your business and does the busywork. Covebuilder is still under construction: we are testing it live and some features are still being built.
Who is it for?
Small businesses and one-person businesses anywhere in the world: shops, food and drinks, beauty and wellness, tutors and coaches, agents and advisers, freelancers, and people selling digital products or online services.
How does it work?
Describe your business, pick a name (we suggest three), and sign in with Google or an email link. We build your site in a few minutes and it goes live at yourname.covebuilder.com straight away, free for 14 days. Then Cove suggests the next useful step on your Home page. You chat about it for free, see exactly what will be built and what it costs, and press the button only if you want it.
Do I need technical skills, a company or a UEN?
No. You do not need any technical knowledge, and a registered company is not required. Freelancers and individuals are fine. Your own name is fine on invoices, and a business registration number is optional.
What is Cove?
Cove is your AI business assistant inside the dashboard. It chats in the language you write in, suggests tasks for your business, answers questions, drafts messages and posts, and plans new features with you. Chatting and planning are free; you only spend credits when you ask Cove to make or build something.
Plans, credits and billing
Is it free?
Your site is built and live free for 14 days, with a small Built with Covebuilder badge, and no credit card is needed. You can look around the whole dashboard and chat with Cove (20 messages a day). To keep your site online after 14 days and use the paid features, such as your business email, improving your site and making posts, the plan is US$20 a month.
What is included in the US$20 a month plan?
Your live website without the badge, a business email address (hello@yourname.covebuilder.com) with an inbox in your dashboard, a polite automatic reply to email enquiries, a daily plan of tasks, posts and pictures made for you using credits plus free post ideas kept in My content, a higher daily limit for chatting with Cove, the money tools, and 20 credits every month.
What are credits?
Credits are used when Cove makes something for you. For example: a single image post, new pictures for your site, or a new page is 1 credit; a photo post with several slides is 2 to 3 credits; a short video is 3 to 5 credits; a logo or festive profile picture is 1 credit for 3 options; a time-slot booking engine is 3 credits one time. Chat, advice, drafts and plans are free. You always see what will be made and the price before you confirm, and nothing is charged until you press the button.
Do credits expire?
Yes. The 20 credits in your plan each month are valid for 2 months. Credits you buy in a pack are valid for 12 months. Credits that expire soonest are used first.
How do I get more credits?
Buy a credit pack in your dashboard. Packs start at 10 credits for US$10, with larger packs available. You can use them whenever you like within their validity.
What if something Cove makes fails?
If a creation fails because of a fault, or no usable result comes back, the credits go back to you automatically. If it worked but you simply do not like the result, you can usually try again for the price shown.
Can I cancel any time? Do I get a refund?
Yes, cancel in Settings whenever you like. There is no contract. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for. We do not refund part months or unused credits, except where the law requires it or a job failed. Billing history is shown to you for 12 months.
How do I pay for my plan?
In US dollars by card, through our secure payment provider. We never see or store your card details.
Do you take a commission on my sales?
No. Customers pay you directly. Covebuilder never holds your customers' money and charges nothing on your sales.
What happens to my site if I stop paying?
It is paused, not deleted straight away. We keep a paused site for 60 days so you can come back and subscribe. After that we may delete it. Your business email address keeps working for 30 days after your plan ends. Tools your customers use (such as a stamp card) are handled the same careful way: see "What happens to the tools Cove made for me if my plan ends?"
What happens to the tools Cove made for me if my plan ends?
We email you first, on the day the plan ends and again 5 days later. If the plan is still not active on day 7, the tool is paused: your customers see a calm "paused" page, and your website stops pointing to it. Nothing is deleted when it pauses. We keep a paused tool for 60 days after the pause (the email tells you the exact date) and you can bring it back any time by subscribing again. Before that date you can also use Download everything to take the files and your data with you. After that date we may delete the tool and its data, and we email you again before we do.
Your website
Where does my website live? Can I use my own domain?
It starts at yourname.covebuilder.com. You can connect a domain you already own at no extra charge on the paid plan, or buy one through us at the price shown before you pay. The domain stays yours.
Can I change my website?
Yes. Tell Cove what to change, such as words, prices, pictures or a new page. Small fixes are free; bigger rebuilds show a price first. If you want a bigger change, Cove shows what it will do and any price first, and nothing is charged until you press the button. Your history is kept, so you can go back.
Which languages can my website be in?
English, Chinese and Malay. Cove chats in the language you write in. The dashboard itself is in English for now.
Can customers book or order on my site?
Yes. You can add a services page, a booking page, a real time-slot booking page, and ordering, by chatting with Cove. Each is planned with you first, so you see what will be built before you spend any credits.
Can Covebuilder build an app for my business?
Yes: a tool your customers open on any phone or computer, such as a stamp card, an order form, a booking tool or a simple tracker. Describe what you need and Cove plans it with you, shows you what it will make and the credit price, and only builds it when you say go. You can take everything with you at any time with Download everything. We do not publish apps to the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Business email
What is the business email?
A professional address like hello@yourname.covebuilder.com, set up once you subscribe. Everything sent to it shows in your dashboard inbox, and it is also forwarded to your own email. Senders get a short note that you have their message, and Cove drafts a reply in your inbox for you to check and send.
Can I read it in Gmail or another mail app?
Yes. Add up to 2 forwarding addresses in My business, such as your Gmail, so mail reaches you wherever you check it. You can reply from the dashboard, or set up Gmail to send as your business address; Cove can walk you through it.
Why have emails to my business address not reached me?
Our email partner Cloudflare must confirm your forwarding address once. Look for a short message from Cloudflare in your inbox, including your spam folder, and press the link in it. Until you do, mail still arrives in your dashboard inbox but may not be forwarded.
Cove and AI
Can Cove make mistakes?
Yes. AI can be wrong, can misspell words inside pictures, and can produce results similar to other people's. Check everything before you publish or rely on it. You are responsible for what you publish.
Does Cove know my business?
Cove uses what you tell it and what is on your site, such as your business description, products, prices and opening hours. Ask Cove, or press What Cove knows in the chat, to see and correct it.
Is there a limit on chatting with Cove?
Chatting is free. The free plan allows 20 messages a day, and the paid plan allows many more.
Does Cove charge me without asking?
Never. Anything that costs credits shows a card with the exact price first, and nothing is built or charged until you press the button.
Posts, pictures and name cards
How do I post my pictures and videos to social media?
Cove prepares posts for you, with captions, hashtags and pictures, and keeps them in My content. You choose the ones you like and post them to whichever social media you use, then tick "I posted this" so Covebuilder remembers the date. Posting directly from Covebuilder is planned for later.
Can Cove make pictures and videos?
Yes, using credits. Photo posts and short videos can be made in English, Chinese or Malay. You see the price first.
Can Cove make my logo, festive pictures and name card?
Yes. A logo or a festive profile picture, such as for Chinese New Year or Deepavali, is 1 credit for 3 options to choose from. Your name card is made with your real details and a QR code, so the text is never misspelled, and it can be printed.
Getting paid
How can my customers pay me?
Send quotes and invoices from Covebuilder. Customers can pay by a payment link of your own, by bank transfer, or by card and local payment methods if you link your own payment account (the options shown depend on your country). The money goes straight to you.
Which payment method should I choose?
The options shown depend on your country. Airwallex takes cards and local payment methods in many currencies and pays out in your own currency; Stripe takes cards from many countries; in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, HitPay suits local payments. You can also add your own payment link and your bank details to every invoice at no cost. You can link one online account at a time.
Does Covebuilder hold my money?
No. We are software, not a bank or payment provider. Your customers pay your own bank, e-wallet or payment provider account.
How do I know an invoice has been paid?
If you link your own online account (Airwallex, Stripe or HitPay), the invoice marks itself as paid when the payment goes through. With bank transfers, your customer can upload their receipt and you tick Mark as paid after checking your bank. Always check your bank first: a receipt picture can be fake.
What about GST or SST on invoices?
You choose whether to show tax and at what rate. The examples are only a starting point. You are responsible for charging the right tax for your business, so check with your accountant or tax office.
Bookings and customers
What is the difference between a booking request and a time slot?
A booking request lets customers say when they would like to come, and you confirm in one tap. The time-slot booking engine shows only free times based on your opening hours, your services and how many people you have, books them straight away, and cannot be double booked. It costs 3 credits one time.
What do I see when someone books?
You see it in People under Booked slots, as a message in your inbox, and in an email to you. You can cancel a booking to free the time, or message the customer on WhatsApp or by email.
Can I send updates to my customers?
Yes, such as a new dish or a holiday closing. Only send to people who told you they want to hear from you, and always give them a way to stop. Cove can help write the message.
Privacy, security and your data
Is my data secure?
Your data is stored with Supabase and sent over encrypted connections. Sensitive keys are encrypted, and we never see or store your card details. See our Privacy Policy for the details.
Who owns my content and my customers' information?
You do. We use it only to run Covebuilder for you. We do not sell it and do not use it for advertising.
Where is my data stored?
With our suppliers, which are mainly in Singapore and the United States. The Privacy Policy lists them and explains the safeguards.
How do I get a copy of my data, or delete my account?
The Privacy Policy explains your rights to see, correct or delete your personal data and how to make a request. Your own website content is yours to copy from your dashboard at any time. For a tool Cove made for your customers, use Download everything: you get the files and your data (passwords and sign-in details are never included).
Which law applies?
Singapore law, and the courts of Singapore. See the Terms of Service for the full wording.
Support
How do I get help?
Start with this FAQ, then ask Cove in your dashboard. Cove can answer questions about your plan, credits and features, and can fix or redo most things. Failed jobs are refunded automatically, and you can see them in the Jobs list. We do not provide individual support by email or phone.
Where can I read the Terms and the Privacy Policy?
At covebuilder.com/legal/terms and covebuilder.com/legal/privacy.
